• The moment I remember most was my first game and we were playing the University of Notre Dame. We tackled a ND player, a scrum was formed, and unfortunately, his head was kicked and it partially split like a watermelon.

We went down to Southern Illinois University for their All Fool's Tournament. We fought hard through four matches and ended up winning the tournament beating out Northern Iowa, I think. It came time to present trophies at the party. First place through third got longhorn steer mounts. In retrospect people appeared to be visibly pissed off with our victory. So before everyone got over their losses and settled back into their beer drinking modes. Our team President/Captain, Keg (Jason Pullara) accepted the largest set of horns, (roughly five feet worth). When Keg was finished giving his appreciation, I grabbed the horns. Acting as if I were about to do something awfully idiotic and shameful, I jumped up on the chair. To the immediate dismay and apprehension of Keg and Couch Vaughn, I raised the horns into the air. Looking into the crowd of our fellow drunk and seemingly aggravated ruggers, it felt as though the entire place was going to erupt into a massive brawl with the Purdue team fighting to escape the beating of a lifetime. I then, on behalf of our team, announced how glad we were for the hosting/presenting team for putting together such a great tournament and party. I also regrettably announced how badly these horns were going to hurt my girlfriend. The place erupted into a wild cheer and we escaped with nothing more than a hangover. It was a great trip that started off with a team gut check and ended up solidifying my reasons for playing the sport. I just wanted to thank all who played with me through the years and express my love for the friendships that endure.

-Cheers

Winning Big Ten Tournament at home in fall of '91. 6-4 win over Iowa in the final. The 2nd penalty kick to put us up was actually a penalty against us - Catfish was biting a guy in a maul... after the Iowa player threw the 2nd retaliatory punch (all in clear view of the ref) he reversed the penalty. Nabil Laham slotted the kick and we hung on for the win...
